I leave in 11 hours (that's 5 am for those of you not on my own personal schedule) and I'm still not packed. Yikes. I've been tagging and packing orders like a mad woman, the shop sold out in record time yesterday (even oversold as I sold 5 yarns that were supposed to go to a shop so I had to respin those today) so I've been a bee, busy. Thanks, btw, y'all rock.
I planned on taking my wheel but just don't have time to get all my fibers etc. ready, so instead I'm taking my computer and I WILL get a podcast done (I got the nicest request today.) Oh, and lots of knitting. I'm taking 2 sweaters and 2 pairs of socks to work on...wow, that seems like so much when I type it out, I'm only gone 2 weeks and there is visiting to be done. Hmmm...
If I owe you an e-mail, please bear with me for 2 weeks!
And here's a bit of eyecandy, my third pair of socktoberfest socks (the first was the jaywalkers, the second was the ribby olive/orange ones which I'll post pictures of upon my return). These are my slipped sanity socks, all the color is done by way of slipped stitches, just random, messing around, hence the no-matchy. They're super comfortable and I love them. Yah handknit socks!
Okay, have a great 2 weeks and I'll see ya soon!
Oh my. I'm officially a flake. When did this happen? Really, I used to be so reliable. I blame the baby. It makes me tired and sometimes a little more than grumpy.
After being gone all day today and spinning like mad both while at Reenie's and upon return (trying to get some orders before I leave town), I'm just too tired to update. I don't know why I plan to do it in the evenings, they're the worst.
Jeez Jacey, enough excuses? get on with it.
Okay, Update, tomorrow, in the AM, if all goes well. Sorry. Bear with me. It's pretty stuff.
I'm late. Heh. Not that kind of late, that kind of late is already said and done and I've got 15 extra lbs to show for it. No, I'm the kind of late where I said the next shop update would be last night and well...no shop update. The yarn is all done. Totally done. However, instead of photographing it and updating, I hauled my exhausted form up to bed and never looked back.
Today I'm busy, and tomorrow I'm heading to Reenie's of material whirled for a little face-friend time, so I hereby declare that the shop will be updated wednesday night. Promise. For sure. I've got 250 yards of a a lovely single, 8 yarns, and at least 3 monster hats (maybe 4).
There's even a yarn similar to the one used to make this beauty by Sophia from Yarn over manhattan. It's freaking lovely isn't it. She posted the pattern on her site and I'll link to it when I post the yarn!
I've also got 2 more pairs of socks to show and my amazing trade from Nesting Emily, which rocked and has made me wanna make soup every night. Plus, I got my first swag from Scout's indie swag and it rocked my...er...socks. heh. I'll be knitting it up next week, along with winter presents for bill, lb, my mom, and pop.
On Saturday morning, the boy and I are off to Kansas City for 2 weeks to visit. Alrighty, oatmeal with molasses time! Yum!
The world famous clapotis, or maybe it should be Clapotis? Here's mine, about a year and a half after the craze first hit but I've always been a bit behind the trends, my hair standing (or rather feathering) as proof to that, it's only 2-3 decades late. Drat this growing out stage, why do I even bother? It is growing fast though, pregnancy and all. But back to the Clapotis, here it is in all it's 6+ feet floor-y glor-y. I really do love it and even though during the actual knitting I had to stick my addis directly into my nailbeds to keep my self conscious and you know, knitting, wearing the finished project almost makes me want to knit another...hell, another 5! I'm officially a shawl girl! all vestiges of hipster coolness have dissapeared and I'm a shawl wearing knitter who can't get enough.
Mine is knit out of black pearl by Lorna's Laces, about 10 yards short of 3 hanks, on US9s. I did 2 additional repeats in the straight section so it's a bit longer. So yes, the pattern, easy, though I'm sure you know that because you've already knit 2, right?
But you've got to admit it's a bit boring, and not even boring like you can sit and mindlessly knit while watching Starbuck moon over Apollo while at the same time acting like she doesn't give a frack. No, not boring like that, that I can stomach (and you may have noticed, with me, that's saying something, stomach and all), but no, this is the kind of boring from which you get no reprieve. You can't ignore and knit, you've gotta pay attention to those twisted stitches and dropped bits every 5 stitches or so. Argh. But look how lovely it is. I twirl and it makes me look just like a real model. heh.
The sign of a true great FO -- knitting it was truely painful but when it's done, you think about doing it again, like childbirth. Hey, think I could get an epidural for the next clapotis I knit?
I may have been to busy to blog, but not too busy to get my socktoberfest on! Yep, here's sock #1 for the festivities, a olive-y ribbed number for Bill. It's going supa quick, or it could be that I knit on it all day while I sat in the jury duty common rool watching bad movies and waiting to be called upon.
* When did you start making socks? Did you teach yourself or were you taught by a friend or relative? or in a class?
I took a wonderful class at my lys about a year ago to learn how to knit these little suckers up. It was a 6 week class and we learned how to use dpns, magic loop, and 2 circs.
* What was your first pair? How have they "held up" over time?
Oh, these were my first pair. Not too shabby. I loved them at the time but now I realize the heel flap was too short, the toes to tight and the rolled cuff annoying. heh. They may have stood the test of time had there not been an unfortunate incident with a mouse. Yeck, glad that's over with.
* What yarns have you particularly enjoyed?
Hmmm...I haven't used too many different sock yarns. Mostly stuff I've bought and dyed myself. I am, however, looking forward to some of scout's swag! Yowsa girl, send it over!
* Do you like to crochet your socks? or knit them on DPNs, 2 circulars, or using the Magic Loop method?
Chroch-what? Circs baby, 2 of 'em!
* Which kind of heel do you prefer? (flap? or short-row?)
Well, I've done both now and I have to say I like the flap, but that could be because it's my first and you always love your first...right? I'm willing to give shortrows another try but I'd really like to try an afterthought heel? yep, sarah's gonna teach me...
* How many pairs have you made?
Let's see...1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.9 Nine. Though only 3 are currently with me, the others are spread out among those I love. I hope to have 6 by the end of the year and by the end of next year to be totally free of commercial socks! yep, a nice little Frack you to seams that pinch and heels that sag!
Also, here's a few of the Little Bit's newest gems --
In a movie theatre bathroom: mama, I'm dunging, I'm dunging!
In our kitchen:
Little bit -- After I peel all these potatos for you, I'm going to throw the peels behind the stove so any mice outside can come inside and have something to eat
me: um...how bout we don't. We don't have any mice right now and I'd like to keep it that way.
Little bit -- Okay, but which is worse for the Earth, mice living in our house or all these potato peels in a landfill?.
