Do you think it was guilt? It may have been guilt. It may have been ugly, self-loathing guilt that made me do it. Yes, last week I bragged, in a rather shameless manner, that I was finished with all my holiday knitting. Several of you e-mailed your surprise, jealosy, and utter amazement. Of course, I didn't reply -- I was far too busy dancing around the house, body stacked in knits, homemade knitted by... tags taped to every finger, singing I'm so awesome, I'm so rad, one for mom, and pop, bill and Little Bit, look, just look at all I knit..." There was more to the song but it just got a bit self-serving and embarrassing from there. Anyway, it must have been the guilt, because I freaked out and on a midnight whim, I started 3 more holiday projects last night. Yes. I. Did. Which just goes to show, my high school guidance counseler, and every ex-boyfriend had it righ-e-o -- I don't want to succeed. I set myself up to fail.
Here's a pair of socks I knit last week for Bill, I can show you these but the rest? You'll just have to take my word for it, since I can't show you the holiday WsIP, or even the Holiday FOs that have yet to be sent. They are all here though, the FOs gently mocking the WsIP and the WsIP laughing outloud each time I walk by -- and knitted stiches can laugh, really, and it's not a pleasent sound, it's creepy and scratchy sounding, the kind of sound you're not sure you heard, the kind of sound that makes you question your sanity...
But there is happy news, though I haven't seen it yet, there's a piece about my monster hats in the new Knitscene! Yeah. Many of you have sent me congratulations and lamentations (that you'll never get one for yourself now that more than 10 people know about them). However, fear not, I spin up several a week that are posted but I also spin up several a week that never get posted because they're special orders -- orders that people send that go a little something like this:
Jaycee, (yes, even though it's right there in my e-mail address, it's still usually spelled incorrectly, that's okay though, I'm not picky. really)
I NEED a monster hat kit and I never seem to get to your site before they're all gone. Can you please spin me up one special? I look really bad in purple, but greens rock my eyes and red hair, so that'd be cool, if possible. I love all your monsters too, so anything you want to make me, but I really really loved Cap'n bloody stump, Dead-eyed Jan, and Pop-eyed Screamer, something like those would kick ass! But you know, whatever, as long as I get one!
thanks,
desperate for a monster hat
Yeah, so don't think just because your life doesn't allow you to be first in line for my friday night updates that you're out of luck. I'll spin you one special, even if you misspell my name!
Also, if anyone wants to scan me a copy of the knitscene piece and e-mail it to me, that'd be super-duper cool! I'm stuck at home with a 4 year old with a voice and cough that sounds a bit like Tom Waits in 20 years and so I'm not sure I'll be going anywhere for a few days.
Posted by jacey at December 12, 2006 09:21 AMThose socks rock! One of these days I might knit something for my husband...
Posted by: Susan at December 12, 2006 10:27 AMI, too, am desperate for a monster hat kit. Who wouldn't be?
Posted by: jodi at December 12, 2006 12:01 PMthat so-called 'monstrosity' could not be further from Bea Arthur if it tried!! i think it's lovely-- followed a link from MDK while i am (supposed to be) toiling away at my real work. were i able to channel all this flaky crafty-projecty-blog-ready energy into a moneymaking venture, i'd be a millionaire.
Posted by: kelli Ferrigan at December 13, 2006 01:33 PMWoo-hoo for your feature in the newest KnitScene. I just bought it and saw that it was in there...I was like, "Hey, I just ordered one of those!" I can't wait to get it and knit it up for my son. I'll also be featuring it in my Sleepy Eyes Knits podcast after the one on Friday, Bing Bong. I'm hoping to get it done before the podcast so I can show it off! I'm so excited. You do such fantastic work!

Posted by: Gina and Ian House at December 14, 2006 01:25 PMOK, OK, OK, I'm SORRY, SORRY, SORRY if you received emails from me jumping up and down over the 2 monster hats I scored off kpixie a few weeks ago that had your name WRONG, but now I'm wondering if you ever got them at all since when I follow the link that says "CONTACT ME!" it says "jacey -at- insubordiknit.com! AHHHHHHH! I am withering with embarassment, but which is right? Inquiring minds are DYING to know!!! (and BTW, if I ever, ever finish my holiday list that ate the planet, I'll be converting your patterns into crochet to whip those babies up into some soft monstery goodness...pics to follow...in the meantime they just come out to play throughout the day when I need something to keep me slogging on...)
Posted by: Dawn at December 14, 2006 05:02 PMOK again. I just shouldn't write anything until I sleep more...of course #3 may be 2 before that happens, but hey it might just be sound policy. I totally brain farted when I read your post. Reread it again and now I get it. Sorry Jacey...
Posted by: Dawn at December 14, 2006 05:11 PMI totally understand the name thing I used to get it all the time...they could spell my email but not my actual name even though it was brooklynne@brooklynnemichelle.com but I don't have that site or problem anymore...
Posted by: brooklynne at December 15, 2006 06:42 AMCongrats on the article. I will have to try to find it. I haven't located a store here that sells anything besides knitting for dummies and your standard Michaels fair.
Our yarn store leaves something to be desired, mostly cause the woman who runs it is a stinker.
She tries really hard to be friendly, but she is not naturally an outgoing person, so it comes across weird.
So, I have to tell you, I get a few commission pieces and get the strange emails too... BUT I HAVE BECOME that person. I was just ordering from http://www.frenecreekfarm.com and I became that person. I am like, send me whatever, I know it will be great, but I like brown and if it isn't too dirty, that would be great.
We want to have what we want, but via email, we just have to beg cause we don't want to put anybody out.
It is amazing how silly we sound.
Happy Hollydays.
