Pirates, cables, and deadheads

A barely human hand emerges from the cesspool of an infected, grime-covered sofa, the stench of old tissue and dyhydration hangs in the air. That hand is mine, but the tangible heaviness of sick is lifting, finally, from the insubordiknit household. LIFTING! I can almost claim air through both nostrils, I can almost speak without cracking, I can almost live. I can blog!

And Iv'e got some stuff to blog about, questions to ask, advice to seek. First, the shop is updated. A little light for the above plague on my house, and also because I had to send a few yarns to a very special place, for a very special opportunity. More later, when I'm less glow-y and more...show-y. But the shop is re-stocked, old Red Beard over there is my favorite monster hat kit evah! How supa cool is he? The spinning is good.

The knitting is good too. Recall the cableing class I mentioned starting? Well, it started and it rocked. I love cables. Really makes me feel like a knitter, all complicated and difficult looking, but really, easy as pie-shaped knickers. Here's my cables after my first class, we had to do a little sample smattering to get the feel.

This is 4X4 right twist we had for homework so that we can learn how to repair cables. However, you'll notice the one on the right, right above the twist, there's a hole. It's kinda under the cable, not like super visible or anything. Is that normal?

So that was the question. Now here's for the solicited advice, everybody in the class is supposed to start thier sweater next Sunday and I've yet to settle on a pattern. I looked at the talented Jodi Green's Mariah, which I decided, much as I love it, that for this cabled class I want something with more cables on it. Same with Rogue, love it but want more. I've been seriously considering the cabled riding jacket from loop-d-loop, but am stuck on whether I wanna do an all-over cabled pattern or if I want one with variety. Oh, if it effects your advice, the color is that lovley poppy orange/red that the above learner-cables are done in. So, anyone have any good cabled sweater (cardigan) patterns they'd like tell me about?

Finally, here's some FOs outta some of my insubordiknit yarns! I love getting these pictures! Love it! First, here's an amazing hat by the lovely angie g. How hot is it? I'm gonna ask for a bigger picture so I can really see it! Next here's a beautiful neck warmer by the frayed knot. She used the cherry garcia pattern by Hello Yarn and the groupie yarn by me, between the two she calls it deadhead. heh.

If the hole is hidden behind the cable then that's normal, it's just the open space where the cables cross each other. If it shows out on the front then there's something buggy going on.

How about the Patons Must Have Cardigan? It's got allover cables of two different types plus another little doohickey stitch for variety, and they're all easy peasy cables. Once you get past one pattern repeat you don't have to look at the charts again, but the finished product looks complex and impressive. At least I think it does; mine's not quite finished.

Dear Spinning Goddess,

I must please ask you to stop tempting me weekly with your exquisite yarns. I am supposed to be on a yarn diet until I finish knitting up all my designated-for-projects-yarns. Each week I am drawn to your shop and each week I find something so incredibly droolable that I can barely keep my mouse from the "add to cart" button. It's torture, I tell you, torture!!!!

I know, I know. I should just stop looking but it's kind of like picking a scab. I know I shouldn't. I know it will hurt when I do it. I just can't find the will power to stop.

Please send psychiatric restraints my way. I'm not sure how much longer I can resist.

Happy Knitting, M

Thanks for posting a pic of the Deadhead. I lost the picture that was on my blog because of technical difficulties. Congratulations on that glow-y thing you got going on.
