How freakin' cool are these? The first one says dye fiber, dye and the second says dyed and spun to death. I got them in the mail from an amazing woman named Therese (that I met at spinning camp) in exchange for a coupla monster faces. They're so rad I can't even decide where to affix them so I've just been pinning them on whatever I'm wearing at the time. I wish she had a website, if she gets one, I'll be sure to post it!
In another amazing show of kindness, a woman that bought many monster hats from me sent me some of the most delicious bath products evah! I've been walking around smelling like a pumpkin pie for days! Shwoomp!! Check it out and smell good!
Photo spin (where I spin and take pictures) of my new, dedicated, fiber studio. B-ill took his guitars and hightailed it outta here and I worked on it for days! There's the carding station (which comes complete with the lovely Bettina), the roving and computer station, and the sewing/textile shelving station (which comes complete with kazoo playing Little Bit). I'm pretty happy with it and am hoping that all the fiber hides the atrocious walls, which were like that when we bought the house. Half torn off wall paper, exposed drywall backing. What's a girl to do? I've though about ripping off all that I can and then putting a thin coat of plaster over the whole thing, adobe like, then painting it warm fall tones. Any other ideas? I love a good house project that I can do myself.
Speaking of house projects I can't do myself... These past two weeks, my nieghbors must think I've started running a brothel, or at least the best little whorehouse in baltimore, though I'm missing the particular grandiosity of Dolly Parton, you know...the hair...But the steady stream of estimators resemble good ole Burt in one important way, mustachios! Yep, apparantly they're making a comeback, all big and solo (no beard) on the doughy pink-faced man. In and out all day they are. Finally it's over and the work will commence this weekend. First the roof! Which for me means no more bowls placed around the kitchen whenever it begins to precipitate outside. Then the bathroom, ahhhhh, the bathroom. A dream come true. This is no indulgance, people. We tore out the bathroom the first week we moved in (almost 2 years ago), down to the studs! No walls, no door, no floor, no shiny white objects used for bathing or washing or uh...eliminating. For almost a year we bathed at friends houses, and peeed in the basement stage toilet. Then the amazing b-ill (with help from my Charm City Kitty Club's jody, aka Lucky Baltimore) put a floor in the bathroom, and finally a toilet. He also installed a stall shower in the basement -- it's cold and dreary, but at least I've got pumpkin pie salt scrubs to make it nice. The real bathroom is still without walls, a door, a tub, and a sink, but all that's about to change! Yep. After several estimates, I've settled on a local little old man with his own little old company. He'll get started as soon as his broken hip is all the way mended...should be the first week in decemeber.
As for spinning news, there's been tons around here. Lots of it experimental. I'm trying to come up with just one new way of spinning a month, though I'm not sure I've reached any...unless naked counts. But I do have lotsa funky new yarns. Sorry about the lack of a Sunday update, I needed to replenish my stock and also had several custom jobs to do. This sunday it'll be big and exciting.
my 5 yr old saw your photo spin and said, "now that house has alot of yarn!"
Posted by: catherine at November 22, 2005 08:32 AMYay! studio!
Yay! roof!
Yay! bathrooms!
I hate you for your fiber studio. I mean, what a cool space! ;)
Posted by: Scout at November 22, 2005 09:45 AMJealous, jealous, jealous of that great work room....and totally sympathetic to the house issues: 3 years ago we tore out the back room and have yet to finish it...my bathroom has water running into the walls and dripping through to the basement, yikes! So far the roof is holding out, so keep your finger crossed that I didn't jinx it.
P.S. Old construction guy didn't break his hip falling off a roof, did he? heh heh.
Posted by: Carrie at November 22, 2005 05:01 PMI think I meant keep your fingers (plural) crossed.
duh
I'm so jealous! That spinning room is awesome!
Posted by: Anne at November 23, 2005 11:17 AMthat studio is yummy. and you and lil bit have your desks next to each other. adorable.
Posted by: nakachi at November 23, 2005 07:10 PMit looks great. i am sure you realized after seeing my work station at camp that i am a total slob and it is much easier to clean up my studio when it becomes to messy to move than to realize that the whole house is covered in my fiber stuff...so that is a goody for me. plus i get to see all my stuff. i sound so greedy. oh yeah, i am.
Posted by: natasha fialkov at November 23, 2005 10:56 PMOh, I am jealous of your workroom!
I also request, dear vomit-boots, that if you are going to tease us with mentions of naked spinning, that you at least have the decency to post photographs of it.
Thank you.
